Capyly

Frequently asked questions

Capyly opens an ephemeral chat room in every place, reserved for the people who are there. The answers below cover usage, privacy and venues.

Capyly in short

What is Capyly?

Capyly is an app that gives every place (café, coworking space, gym, hotel) its own chat room. Only people who are physically there can write in it, and messages are deleted after 24 hours.

Is Capyly free?

Yes, Capyly is free for users. Venues can open their room for free with the Essential plan; paid plans with more options are coming soon.

Where can I find Capyly places?

619 places already have a Capyly room, mostly in Brussels and the main Belgian cities. The map shows the ones around you.

Is there a minimum age?

Yes: you must be at least 16 to use Capyly. It is part of the terms of use.

Using Capyly

Do I need an account?

To browse the map and the places, no. To write in a room, yes: your email address is enough, no password to remember.

Why can't I read a room from afar?

Because that's the point: a room only makes sense to the people who are there. Your position, or the place's QR code, opens the door.

How long do messages stay?

24 hours. Then they disappear, for everyone, for good.

What happens to my position?

It's used once, to check you're within 30 m of the place when you join. It's neither stored nor shared.

What if I see an inappropriate message?

You can report the message and block its author right from the room. The Capyly team reviews every report.

For venues

How do I open a room for my venue?

Claim your place from the "For venues" page, or create it if it is not on the map yet. After a check (one to two working days), you manage the room and get a QR code to display.

Can I change plans?

For now, every place is on Essential, which is free. Pro and Event are coming soon: write to us to hear when they open.

I have several places?

You manage them all from the same account. Paid plans are not open yet: when they launch, a discount will apply from three Pro places.

What happens to the conversations?

Messages are ephemeral. You set their lifetime (from minutes to days). When they expire, they disappear. No archive.

Do I need technical skills?

No. You get a QR code, you put it in your place, people scan it. That's it.

How do I stop?

You deactivate a place whenever you want from your account. No notice, no fees.
